Solar Panels

Overview

What Are Solar Panels?

In light of the growing emphasis on renewable energy, it is crucial to gain a comprehensive understanding of solar energy and its role in generating electricity for our homes and workplaces. At the heart of this system are solar panels, composed of solar cells that possess the remarkable ability to convert solar energy into electricity. These cells consist of layers of silicon, boron, and phosphorus, which capture solar energy and transform it into direct current (DC). Solar panels are available in various sizes, allowing for customization based on the power requirements of the designated area. By connecting solar panels to solar inverters and batteries, a complete solar energy system is formed, harnessing the potential of solar power.

Monocrystalline Solar Panels

Monocrystalline solar panels or single-crystal solar panels are made of pure silicon. The purest form of silicon is cut into wafers to make solar cells. Pure silicon panels are the most spacious and long-lasting panels with deep black color. Due to the use of pure silicon, it comes with a hefty price tag.

Polycrystalline Solar Panels

Polycrystalline solar panels are made from different silicon crystals that are melted and shaped into a characteristic square. As silicon isn’t in its purest form, these solar panels are less efficient but more affordable than monocrystalline solar panels. They are also less efficient in high temperatures due to their less heat tolerance.

Thin-film Solar Panels

As the name indicated, they are made of thin layers that make them flexible and easy to install. They don’t need a frame backing and thus can be installed anywhere easily. Unlike other solar panels, they come in a variety of sizes. But thin-film solar panels are less efficient than traditional silicon solar panels.
